"In a time before words, in lands beyond our comprehension, early man watched as the life-sustaining sun sank lower on the horizon with each passing day. Fearing the end of light and the advent of perpetual darkness he quickly learned to mark the day when the sun began to rise and strengthen despite the bleakness of winter. It is perhaps little wonder that many holidays coincide with this astronomical event, from mid-October to early February, across any number of different cultural and religious traditions... [such as] Diwali, Samhain, Hanukkah, the winter solstice, Christmas, and Kwanzaa."

I visited this interesting lecture at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, which reminded me to wish you all Merry Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, Samhain, Kwanza, winter solice, or whatever your religion/faith is.

Let us also celebrate that we are allowed to belong to different beliefs, religions. And let us be true to this constitutional right of every American in our behavior and thoughts.

In this sense, Happy New Year!
