This week’s almost hybrid meeting was called to order by President Emily. Attending members were led in the Pledge of Allegiance & the 4-way test followed by a moment of silence (Remembering Barrie).

Guests:           Amy Caldorone (Past member of Carlsbad Club) She’s looking to rejoin Rotary.

January is– “Rotary Awareness Month”

Announcements /Sad-Happy-Brag Bucks:

Remember our tentative work day at the Silver Horizons warehouse, 24 Jan @ 11:30AM.

The District “All Club Luncheon” is coming up in April during the District conference! It’ll take the place of one of our regular meetings.

Gloria’s youngest girl in Amsterdam can work at home… Her husband has a new job in Denmark!

Emily found a ten to tell us about her army son (now in Louisiana- temporarily) & his family in NY State.

She’s also happy for her foster daughter. They caught a dead fish which had to be “preserved”.

Trivia Quiz for the day from Sgt-at-Arms Cheryl: AND… prizes for TRIVIA this week.

In the January ROTARY magazine – what article was featured? Judy told us that it was “The Crossing”.

From the NM book: What is the State nickname of NM? Emily got it- it’s “Land of Enchantment”.

From Allan’s deck of cards: How & Why did the street names Gold, Copper & Lead exist? Well, the founders hoped to promote the mining industry in the State, says Libby.

Club, District & R.I. News and Business:

Our $100 per member voluntary assessment becomes due during January. This donation takes the place of a fundraising event. Make your checks out to the Rotary Club of Albuquerque Sandia.

There are some questions about support that might be needed by the approximately 100 Afghan refugees that have settled temporarily in the Albuquerque area. Lutheran Family Services is the local organization caring for them. A member of this organization is a Rotarian and has asked the District to let local club leaders know that the refugees are in need of warm outerwear and we’re sure there are other needs as well. Members or clubs can drop off articles to the local Lutheran Family Services site at: 4105 Silver Ave SE.  They can also be contacted at: 505.933.7032.

If you have any questions, Albuquerque Del Norte Rotarian Ina Miller, a member at Lutheran Family Services, may be able to assist.

That PolioPlus jar made its trip around the room.

A condolence card was signed by all, for Barrie’s family. AND, we all signed a poster card for Vivien.

So, it looks like we’ll be having hybrid ZOOM Club meetings from now on!

Program speakers for the Rotary Year:

January – Cheryl    February – Penny    March – Pamela    April – Libby    May – Pat    June - Judy

January member birthday anniversaries:  Emily, Libby and Mollie.

Our Club will sponsor participants in the District’s 4-Way Test essay contest 2022 with a local 8th grade class. The winning essay from each Club is to be forwarded to the Four-Way Test Essay Contest District Chair by March 5, 2022. President Emily has forwarded a set of instructions and application to the Century 21 middle charter school.

Today’s Program:     We never learned what’s New at North Domingo Baca Multi-Generational Center

Cheryl would have introduced Tom Gallagher, N. Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center Supervisor.

It appears that Tom’s out for the week. We’ll try to find out if he’s ill (or not).

The room was occupied prior to our meeting… So, Cheryl had a difficult time catching up with prep for our meeting, thereby making it very difficult to log in those members who wanted to attend our meeting by Zoom. Well, better luck next week.

There being no further Rotary business, our meeting was concluded at 1:00 PM.

We killed time by finding out what’s happening with our projects and how Michael P. is doing, etc.
