Today’s Program:     Wings for Life International (WFL)

President-Elect Karen Introduced Ann Edenfield Sweet, executive director & founder of Wings for Life International.

Since 1995, Wings is transforming lives to break the generational cycle of incarceration.

Life-Wise family workshops are designed to teach inmates how to build and strengthen relationships with their families through discussion, mentoring, empowerment and support with WFL staff and volunteers by teaching life skills addressing individual family needs.

Wings For LIFE International offers workshops at prison facilities, halfway houses and juvenile
facilities. Workshops are designed for inmates with a release date in one year or less, or any
inmate who has been identified by the prison/facility. Family members may also be included in the workshops so they learn together with their incarcerated loved one.
Wings has created a way to rebuild lives during and after incarceration and uses its curriculum,
Strengthening Families from the Inside Out, to teach basic life skills to inmates so they can implement
these skills in everyday life.

Objectives:
1. To reduce recidivism rates by teaching best-practices and strengthening family relationships.
2. Prepare inmates for job success.
3. Teach inmates practical ways to stretch a dollar and be more financially savvy.
Outcomes:
Wings recognizes that Education = Knowledge = Empowerment = Action = Change = SUCCESS.
Pre and post surveys are given to those attending each workshop series. Voluntary comment
forms are encouraged at each workshop to help leaders better help clients.

Workshops teach social skills, developmental assets (Ways to cut at-risk behaviors), ways to strengthen those assets & manners.
Participation in pre-workshop mixers teach self-confidence and public speaking skills.

Soon, WFL will have a new building of their very own, in Albuquerque. They’ll also hopefully partner with CNM. GED’s are a necessary achievement for inmates.

WFL is currently set up in 20 states, India, Kenya & Liberia.

Of course, WFL always needs volunteers.
