September is– “New Generations Month”

In order to further test our feelings about a possible change in our meeting venue, today we tried out and met at the Church of the Good Shepherd (COGS), located at 7834 Tennyson Street NE, Albuquerque.

Following our monthly board meeting which was attended by DG Doreen, President Gail called our meeting to order and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance & the 4-way test followed by a moment of silence and reflection.

Visiting Rotarians:    DG Doreen Kelsey                 ADG Bill Dennis

Guests:           Rev. Sarah Tevis Townes, pastor of COGS

No pin or name tag buck fines were collected today.

Announcements/Sad-Happy-Brag Bucks:

Mollie – Parted with an honest buck, ‘cause Bill lent her a Rotary pin today.

Judy – Was good for a buck for this “earliest” DG visit. She’s also impressed with our “hands on” DG.

Dave – Found $2 (not 50¢ each) for happy and sad: Happy for upcoming cruise trip to Europe, sad to miss 2 meetings, ecstatic over the great pecan pie (by Gail).

Mary B – Parted with a buck to tell of the Farmers vs. Ranchers “golf tournament” this past Saturday.

Mary J –  Put up a buck to say sorry that she’ll be gone ’til 16 Oct. due to lots of company & travel.

Our Sgt-at-Arms Allan’s questions for today: 1- In Sept’s Rotarian, there’s an article titled “The Age of Invention”, about the creativity of older adults, in which it says that young people are just smarter.

Q: Who said that? (No, it wasn’t Allan) Give up?- It was Mark Zuckerberg (BOO!)

2- In ABQ, there’s some great art of steel & glass @ the Metropolitan Forensic Science Center. It’s a BIG magnifying glass. Q: What’s on it? Well, it’s a big fingerprint that’s projected on the walls when the sun hits it. I wonder why only Allan knew this? (It’s located at 5350 2nd Street, NW)

Club, District & R.I. News and Business:

Our search for a change in meeting venue continues. President Gail hopes to call a vote on a permanent meeting venue during our 26 September meeting at the Rotary Park picnic. The vote will ask: A- Shall we change venues? B- If we change, shall we meet at N. Domingo Baca OR at the Good Shepherd Church?

Next week, we’ll meet once again at N. Domingo Baca in room 6 on the second floor.

Grant Chair Marion has News on our District Community Grant: Our District grant project with Silver Horizons has been approved and may be starting in October. Dom Bernardi & DG Doreen have expressed their feelings that we’ll be able to keep the remainder of our last grant & use it for Silver Horizons!

Pat has planned a “Ghost Tour” 90 minute walk in Old Town on 28 September @ 8:00PM. Cost $18. A signup sheet will follow, soon. Let’s meet for dinner before the walk.

Since it’s Casa Esperanza’s “Pantry Month”, each of us brought cans & non-perishable food to this week’s meeting. Good Work Guys- It looks like we have around $150 in-kind donations.
