Following our first board meeting of the Rotary Year, President Vivien called our meeting to order at 12 Noon. She led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance & the 4-way test. A moment of silence and reflection followed.

There were no visiting Rotarians or guests this week.

July is– “Changeover Month”

We collected just one pin or name tag buck fine today.

Announcements/Sad-Happy-Brag Bucks:

Libby was sans hot water for 3 weeks… Now it’s back on but, the AC is out.

Emily’s in El Paso w/kids for 4 days. Her son will be home in November from Afghanistan.

Gail’s sad & happy to be leaving NM for FL next week. She’ll be carried on our rolls for the next three months.

Bruce was just happy to be here today.

Our Trivia Quiz for the day from Sgt-at-Arms Cheryl:

As of 10 June, Rotary has raised what amount to PolioPlus? $38mil, $65mil or $100mil?

Over $100 mil! Cases of poliomyelitis have been reduced by 99.9%.

Judy stood up & said a tearful “TaTa” to Gail… This’ll be her last meeting with our Club (Yup, there was cake). Gail will remain an official Club member for the next few months ‘til she finds another Club in North Venice, Florida (That’s near Tampa). Gail has been with our Club since 1 October 2014 and has served as President and Service Projects Chair. Since she has already packed for her move and has no room for additional stuff, the Club presented her with an Amazon gift certificate to help buy all new guest room furniture.

Our RI Foundation chair, David, presented our Immediate Past-President, Patrick, with his third  Paul Harris Fellowship in honor of his service as Club President. The Club has made this award possible by transferring the necessary amount of Club “points” to the RI annual fund in Patrick’s name.

The Polio Plus jar made its usual trip around the room.

An RFE group will be visiting from Fredericksburg, TX, 15 July to19 July. The District needs host families for couples or singles. Interested? Call Donna at pedaceabq@aol.com or 349-8850, or Regina Guest at raeguest65@swcp.com or 792-0942. Hosts are responsible for a private bedroom, hopefully a private bath, breakfast each morning, transportation by either themselves or another club member, and possibly a few other costs for some meals and sightseeing.

There are still a few slots available for the RFE trip TO Wisconsin- October 3 – 11. If you’re interested in making the trip, send an email to Donna or to Regina.

Please remember that all Club members are welcome to attend any of our monthly board meetings.

The Club’s July project will be:       We work at Storehouse New Mexico on 12 July, 8:30A to 12 Noon.

The Storehouse is located at 106 Broadway, SE, Albuquerque, NM.

Emily has reminded us that, if you have signed up to assist with a Club project, PLEASE SHOW UP!

Those organizations which we help, depend upon the number of Club members that have volunteered!

Member birthdays to celebrate This Month (July): Only John (He’s old)

Yup! He got the song & all seemed to be in tune (At least with each other).

Emily just joined up with Blue Star Moms and she mentioned that this organization manufactures neck cooling scarves. They pack them into goodie boxes which are sent to our troops overseas. Fewer and fewer of these scarves are being made! So, Emily suggested that we join in to manufacture these scarves. Our Interact Club is set up for just this sort of project, so they could be asked to help out. There’ll soon be a “how to do it” instructional class. Jobs will include: Cutting, Sewing, Pressing and Filling.

The “Don’t Meth With Us” grant project continues. Only 4 have signed up with this project and Emily is doing almost all of the work! She has also contacted the DEA, APS, YMCA, APD and the Boys & Girls Clubs to obtain their assistance.

Today’s Program: Club Assembly

We reviewed Rotary web pages and discovered how to find important information.

Bruce Bortner, District 5520 Trainer (AND honorary member of our Club), also discussed the Rio Grande Leadership Academy (Our Club has 8 graduates) and the structure of Rotary and resources of District 5520.

Rotary Clubs are at the top of the Rotary pyramid.

Next come the Districts (ours is District 5520). Districts assist the Clubs in that District.

Then come the zones, which are comprised of several Districts. Our District is now in Zone 26. The Zones provide training for their Districts and helps with Rotary’s public image.

ZONE 26: USA (AZ, CA, CO, HI, NM, NV, TX): Comprised of districts 5000, 5170, 5220, 5230, 5240, 5280, 5300, 5320, 5330, 5340, 5450, 5470, 5495, 5500, 5520, 5730.

And, finally there’s Rotary International, based in Chicago, IL. RI runs everything else.

There being no additional Rotary business, our meeting concluded at 1:00 PM.
