Club, District & R.I. News and Business:

November birthday Anniversaries:  Judy & Bruce

Club members provide program speakers for our meetings. To supply programs for one of the remaining months, please contact Judy.

Please remember that we are providing gifts once again to residents of both Hannett and Solano Houses. You’ve received an email from Emily, permitting each of us to select a resident’s requested gift. Return your selection via email (REPLY TO ALL) & deliver your gift to Emily by 5 December… Or, she’ll pick them up from you and deliver them to Solano & Hannett.

On 8 December, each of us call & “visit” and drop off cookies, etc. to those of our members who do not attend meetings via Zoom. Ya jes gotta keep in touch somehow!

Emily mentioned that, since the staff at both Solano & Hannett are really working so hard, we could recognize their work in some manner. A motion was presented by Cheryl, to have the Club provide holiday cards filled with $25 each and given to each of the 15 staff members. The motion received a second from Penny and was passed unanimously by all attending members.

Today’s Program:     Conversing with Difficult People & Understanding Your Own Triggers

Michael introduced Anne deLain W. Clark, cofounder of Stanhope & Clark.

Anne helps people to ask, listen and respond better in the public and private sectors. As an interpersonal communication and conflict management expert, consultant and educator, Anne discussed the power of conscious communication to improve relationships.

Among some of the facts touched upon, were: Holiday interaction & reactions to election results.

What do we do in these difficult times? Exploring your best & worst conversations.

We covered what parts of the brain we use for what… Listening & conversational intelligence, low & high trust and what parts of the brain they work with, ie: the cortex is the part of the brain in which we should do the most thinking (high trust). Outrage & injustice = neocortex, reflex action=low trust & it’s in the primitive brain; the amigdala is where fear lives. We have centralized and non centralized nervous systems.

We should move to or stay in the prefrontal cortex as much as possible, in order to analyze what happened and how to deal with it.
